Examining National Identity and the Cohesion of the Persian Language in the Mirror of the Persian Poetry of Kurdish Poets and Its Role in National Solidarity

Abstract :
According to the accounts of numerous Iranologists, the Kurds are among the oldest inhabitants of the Iranian plateau and one of the purest branches of the Aryan peoples; their language, customs, and even their script reflect some of the deepest cultural remnants of ancient Iran. Accordingly, the Kurds may be regarded as one of the most authentic Iranian ethnic groups, and the Kurdish language as one of the oldest and most vigorous Iranian languages. Today, speakers of this language—while benefiting from it, which, in the view of linguists, is the only direct remnant of the Median language—have also fulfilled their cultural debt to the Persian language. The most prominent characteristics of Iranian ethnic groups, including the Kurds, must be sought in shared elements that enable them to be conceived within a unified identity called the “nation.” Common history, geography, traditions, and culture constitute the most significant unifying factors among these groups. Modern human beings, unlike their predecessors, have become multidimensional entities who, through various cultural and social transformations, acquire multiple identities—ethnic, cultural, national, religious, and others. Using analytical and comparative methods, the author of this study seeks to demonstrate, through examining selected poems of several Kurdish poets, that the continuity of linguistic and ethnic identity is not a threat to national identity; rather, it is one of its fundamental reinforcing and consolidating pillars.
